Obituary for Leonard A. Vogel

Leonard A. Vogel, 86, of Waco, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 17, 2015. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 2001 N. 25th Street, Waco, followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, followed by visitation with the family until 8 p.m.

Leonard was born June 19, 1929 in Wright, Kansas, the son of Herman and Catherine Vogel. A longtime Waco resident, he was Chief Nurse Anesthetist at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital for 32 years. He was a devoted member of St. Louis Catholic Church for almost 50 years.

In 1956, he proposed to Clara Roets of Wichita on their first date. They were wed on April 3, 1956. From this marriage came three children: Tim, Robert, and Mary.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Ann Vogel; son, Robert Vogel; four brothers and three sisters; 12 siblings of the Clara Roets family; and his father and mother, Herman and Catherine Vogel.

Survivors include Timothy M. Vogel of Waco, Mary Vogel Emmet of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Amanda and Andrew Emmet; brother, Raymond F. Vogel of Houston; numerous nieces and nephew; sisters-in-law; sister, Alfreda Roets (twin sister to Clara), Pat Klinghammer; and many other special in-laws.

Leonard will be remembered for his humbleness, kindness, generosity, wit and humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
