Condolence: Mark Deering was a mendacious, self-centered man whose god was the Dallas Cowboys. He presumed a great deal of knowledge which he did not actually possessed, and lusted for power over others.

Condolence: Everyone whom knew Monsignor Mark Deering knew he enjoyed life. He brought so much joy with his instrumental role in the development of St. Louis Elementary School, St. Louis Church, and Reicher High School. As a 1975 graduate of Reicher and also attending all 12 years at St. Louis Elementary School, I remember he always had a smile wherever you encountered him. I also had Monsignor Mark Deering baptize me and shortly before he passed he offered to bless me his last and final time. It was certainly an honored goodbye and one cherished moment that my mother and I well never forget. May he rest in peace.

Condolence: I've appreciated the spiritual leadership of Monsignor Deering ever since I first arrived in Waco in 1996 as the Senior Pastor of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. I met him through the Greater Waco Interfaith Conference which had its roots in Waco Conference of Christians and Jews, which he help found in our community. We shared a common appreciation of the value of interfaith relationships.

My last contacts with him where when I was a resident of St. Catherine's receiving post spinal surgery therapy and had the delight of receiving the Holy Eucharist at services in which he presided. All of those times we were together I was blessed again and again, and so I thank God, the God of all, for the ministry and life of Mark Deering.

Condolence: There are many words to describe the man, the priest, the humanitarian.

Father Deering was integral part of the Matthews family. Father saw my dad, deceased and my uncle both graduate from Reicher HighSchool, my uncle went on to Notre Dame and followed in Father Deerings footsteps of humanity and care for all.

Father Deering was always a fixture in our lives growing up and we will hold him dear.

I leave this post with one quote that I will never forget..."If Jean Matthews doesn't make it into heaven...none of us are making it in."

Love you deeply Father Deering. You are already missed and as my mother said, "Father Deering and your grandmother must have had a great reunion in heaven"

Glodd bless, The Matthews Family

Condolence: Msgr. (then Father) Mark Deering baptized me some $()!*%658 years ago. He and my family were intertwined for that many years!!!! Because of these service years to my family and myself, it was a great honor to be a part of his holy journey. The last words he said to me were "thank you Sharon" in a very feeble voice after I moisturized his lips and gave him ice chips. Earth lost an icon but heaven gained an awesome angel and maybe someday saint!!!! You will be missed as you took a huge piece of many people's hearts to heaven with you.
