Obituary for Mary Frances Reid (Boyd)

Mary Frances Reid, 91, passed from this life on Friday, July 1, 2016, into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held at Oakcrest Funeral Home, Saturday, July 9, 2016, at 11am, with Reverend Wayne Williams officiating. Music by Lynn Boyd, nephew, and Minister of Music/Worship Leader, Living Water Church of Burleson.

Frances was born on February 16, 1925 in Hillsboro,Texas, the only daughter of George Franklin and Florence Isabell Barnes Boyd. She grew up in the Peoria area, attending school in the Bethel Community. On June 22, 1942, she married the love of her life George Herman Reid, who lovingly called her “Babe”, for just over 74 years. Frances and Herman grew up together in the Peoria area, moving to Fort Sill, AR and California before he was sent to Guam during World War II. Frances waited in Peoria for Herman to return; and then they made Waco their home as Herman began his lifelong career in September 1945, at General Tire and Rubber Company.

Frances was a homemaker and devoted member of St. John’s Methodist Church for many years, and then First United Methodist Church, where she tirelessly gave of her time and expertise to teach, mentor, encourage, and accompany the youth of the church on countless youth activities and to cook an untold number of meals for every church occasion. Frances was involved in her daughters’ and grandkids’ every activity. She was known for her exquisite divinity and fudge, the beautiful presentation and delicious delicacies at her showers, the legendary fish dinners she prepared, from Herman’s catch of the day. The 70th surprise birthday luncheon she helped give for her “sister” Mildred was perfect. Frances loved to bowl and made many trips with her bowling team all over the United States.

Frances was happiest when she was helping someone and spending time with her family. She has been lovingly, meticulously and tirelessly cared for in her home by her daughter, Kim, for the past 8 years. Frances was ready to move to Heaven and has now heard the words “well done, good and faithful servant”, as Wayne Williams noted upon learning of her passing.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; brothers James (Bub) Boyd and wife Beatrice, and George (Sim) Boyd and wife Joyce; niece Fran Boyd Reed; and dearest of friends, Calvin & Mildred Adams.

Frances leaves her legacy of faith and love for her beloved husband, Herman Reid; daughters, Kim Watson, Waco, TX; Lisa Ferrand, Albany, NY; grandchildren, Grant Cunningham US Navy Japan, Reid Cunningham, Los Angeles, CA, Angel Ferrand, Saratoga, NY; brother and dear sister-in-law, Billy Gene and Ruby Nell Boyd; nieces, Marsha Tiefel and Paul, Aaron, Mamiko and Ema, Jason, Jenny and Charlie; Jeannie Hollingshead and Jerry, Kyle, Annie & Quinlan; nephews, Lynn Boyd and Linda, Lyndon, Shayla, Jade and Jace; Kevin Boyd and Teresa, Lauren; great-niece, Mindy Reed Werpney and Tony, Noah, Joanah; great-nephew, Michael Reed; nieces-in-love, Donna Adams Zemanek and James, Aimee; Janet Adams Slaughter, Jantzen, Jace, Haley, Jaideyn & Traycen; her precious “Biggie”; and a multitude of other family and friends.

Auntie, as she was lovingly called by so many, made a difference in the lives of all whom she encountered and we will never forget. She is greatly missed; and we look forward to joining her.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Waco, Texas.
