Obituary for Sylvia Jeanne Allen (McReynolds)

Sylvia Jeanne McReynolds Allen passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016, in Waco, Texas. Memorial services will be 1 pm on Wednesday, August 10, at OakCrest Funeral Home in Waco.

Sylvia was born January 31, 1940, in Dallas. She was the first of three children born to Thelma Louise Henderson and William Thomas Broughton. Sylvia and her family later found a home in Kingsville. She attended H. M. King High School and upon graduation attended Texas A&I University where she received undergraduate and master's degrees.

Sylvia was married to Delmer Lee Allen of Kingsville and had two sons, David Mark and William Lon Allen. She taught English and Distributive Education at H. M. King High School. She later moved to Corpus Christi where she taught at Richard King High School before she moved in the late 1980s to Austin where she became a Director of Career and Technical Education for the Texas Education Agency until her retirement. She was loved by all who knew her and she had a giving heart as well as a love for education.


Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents Thelma Louise and William Overton (Mac) McReynolds of Kingsville, TX. She leaves two sons and their wives, Mark and Susan Allen of Hewitt, TX. and Lon and Marle' Allen of Safety Harbor, FL. She has seven grandchildren: Julie Riggs of Sidney MT, Joshua Kassell of Myrtle Beach, SC, SSgt Jonathan Allen of Hampton, VA, Alonzo Allen of Gainesville, FL, Andrea Allen also of Gainesville, Alysa Allen of Safety Harbor, FL, and Jacob Allen of Hewitt, TX.

She also leaves four great-grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as "GG" and a great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Haynes and husband Herb of China Spring, TX, and brothers Dr. William McReynolds and wife Lin of Cashiers, NC, Dr. Bill Broughton and wife Susan of Greenville, NH, and the Reverend Sam Broughton and wife Jenny of Oklahoma City, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
