Obituary for Clara Bolt Howington

Clara Alice Bolt Howington, 89, of Waco, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016, at Providence Hospice Place. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at OakCrest Funeral Home with Rev. David Cozart officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd, Waco.

Clara was born February 10, 1927, in Laurens, S.C., to Lewis Adger and Ruby (Atkinson) Bolt. She was a graduate of Laurens High School in May, 1944. Clara met Wayland Franklin Howington in the summer of 1946 and they were married April 19, 1947 in Laurens. They lived in Fort Worth before moving to Waco in 1948 where she worked for Amicable Life Insurance Company. She subsequently worked as a typist for the original Baylor Stadium Campaign

Upon the birth of her first child she became a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. After her children were grown she went to work for American Income Life Insurance Co. in May, 1972 and retired from the company on February 10, 1992. She was a charter member of Lakeshore United Methodist Church.

Clara had a natural goodness that shown through in everything she did and with whomever she interacted. In her later years she worked with the Lakeshore United Methodist Church’s “shut-in” program where she lovingly and diligently would send cards, notes and letters for those having birthdays or other special days to commemorate. And in times of need she would send cards and notes of encouragement. But her greatest pleasure came from doing things for her family and spending many hours enjoying time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayland Howington; brother; Harry Lee Bolt; and great-grandson, Jared Noah Schmidtke.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth Wayland Howington and wife, Cynthia Williams Howington of Robinson and Keith Bolt Howington and wife, April Howington of Burnet; four grandchildren, Lee A. Howington and wife, Jennifer of Cleburne, Dawn H. Schmidtke and husband, Jeff of Papillion, Neb., Faith H. Parker and husband, Heath of Alvarado, and Jonathan David Howington of Burnet; nine great-grandchildren, Ryan, John, Reagan, and Grayson Schmidtke of Papillion, Neb., Kylee and Kaden Howington of Cleburne, Alicia, Kirsten, and Tyler Parker of Alvarado; a brother, Melvin Bolt and wife, Doris of Laurens, S.C.; nephews, Mike and Allen Bolt; and a niece, Debbie Sessions.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Marilyn Baker for her care and friendship to Clara.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Norvell, Mike Pirelo, Ronnie Schuester, Ira Carpenter, Heath Parker, and Hinson Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Duane Lucas and Bill Brown.

Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice, 6700 Sanger Ave., Waco, TX 76710, Homebound Ministry at Meadowbrook Baptist Church, 1207 N. Old Robinson Rd., Robinson, Tx. 76706 or to the charity of your choice.
