Obituary for Gene A. Davis

Gene A. Davis, loving husband, father and servant to all went home to his Lord and Savior August 30, 2016. Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Friday, September 2, 2016, at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church, with Rev. Amos Humphries, officiating.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, September 1, 2016 at OakCrest Funeral Home. Burial will be at Waco Memorial Park.

Gene was born November 17, 1933 in Waco, Texas to Robert Frank and Myrtle (Urbantke) Davis. He married the love of his life , Evelyn Lester, on May 17, 1962. He was a sewing machine mechanic for 39 years. He believed in helping others and did so all of his life. Gene joined the Texas National Guard when he was 17, serving for 27 years, among his many duties was to clean up after the Waco tornado in 1953. In addition to that service, he was a Deacon of his church and volunteered at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Robert Frank Davis, Jr. and Melvin Davis.

Known to his family as “papa”, Gene is survived by his wife Evelyn; daughters, Cindy Boney and husband Pat, and Gena Davis Reid; grandchildren, Amber Reid, Cory Boney and wife Abigail, Meagan Garcia and husband Robert, Matt Boney, and Dalton Reid; four great grandchildren and two more on the way.

A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at Providence Hospital and Providence Hospice for their excellent care during his final days.
