Dorothy Hicks Springfield
February 2, 1929 to September 11, 2016

Dorothy Lee Springfield, 87, of Waco, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 11, 2016. Funeral services celebrating her life will be at 11 A.M. Thursday, September 15th at Western Heights Baptist Church, 6301 Bosque Blvd., Waco. Dr. Charles Dixon will officiate with Eulogist Pastor Kip Osborne. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, September 14th at Oak Crest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Dorothy was born February 2, 1929 in China Spring, Texas to James Martin and Winnie Lucille Hicks. She graduated in 1946 from Waco High School. Dorothy went to work at William Cameron and Company after completing courses at 4-C Business College.

While employed at William Cameron she met the love of her life, Milford Springfield and they wed November 22, 1947 at Memorial Baptist Church in Waco. After raising her two sons Dorothy furthered her career outside the home for a short period at Winn’s Department Store before joining Texas Farm Bureau.

Dorothy was a loving, warm-hearted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend. She lived her life as a devoted Christian and was especially respected for reflecting Christian values. Dorothy has held various roles in the church serving as Sunday School teacher, Bible School leader, and past president of Women’s Missionary Union. She was a member of the Rachel Sunday School Class in addition to serving on several committees at Western Heights Baptist Church. She devoted her life to God, her church and family.
She was a loving, wonderful mother who had many close friends.

She will be fondly remembered most for her beautiful smile, sharp wit, humorous storytelling, generosity, selflessness and enjoyment of life. She was an avid bridge player and also enjoyed a good game of 42. Dorothy volunteered for many organizations including being a Cub Scout Den Mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Bob Hicks.

She is survived by two sons, Stephen Springfield of Dallas and Brian Springfield and wife, Mitzi, of Magnolia, Texas; two grandsons, Britton and Kyle Springfield; sister, Betsy Wirtz, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family thanks her many caregivers, members of the church, and many friends for their prayers and support.
