Obituary for Mark S. Alexander

Mark S. Alexander, 54, of Waco, passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2016. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Everyone is encouraged to wear camo clothing to the service in his honor. Visitation will be at OakCrest Funeral Home on his birthday, Friday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mark was born in Denton and spent his early childhood in Gulfport, Miss. In 1968, he moved to Waco, graduating from Jefferson Moore High School in 1979. He received a B.S. degree in 1986 in behavioral science and a master of education in 1990 in counseling and human development.

Mark was employed as a counselor at the Ben Richie Boy’s Ranch in Abilene and subsequently at the Methodist Children's Home in Waco before entering the automobile business for 26 years.

Mark was formally a member of Columbus Ave. Baptist Church and was currently attending Harris Creek Baptist Church. Mark loved many things: God, his family, cars, guns, cigars, John Wayne, hunting, tennis shoes, fitness, and all of his children; some children he fathered and others he “daddied.” Blood or not he treated them all the same, what he did for one, he did for all!.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Lee and Cecil Dell (Trammell) Alexander.

He is survived by five children, Mark Landon Amburn of Jacksonville, NC, Malcom Morgan of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Jacob Matus of Waco; Naleigh Alexander of Waco; and Paxton Alexander of Waco; sister, Lisa Flenniken of Dallas; nieces, Rachel Alexander and Sarah Flenniken; two nephews, Jordan Alexander and Devin Flenniken; and godparents, Doctors Robert and Dorothy Barnes of Abilene.
