Obituary for Helen Azar George

Helen Azar George
Helen Azar George, 82, of Waco, TX, was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on October 19, 2016, surrounded by her family after suffering from a brain aneurysm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 24 at 11 a.m., at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 9820 Chapel Road, Woodway, TX with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, October 23 from 5 to 7 p.m., with the Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m., at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., Waco, TX.

Helen, better known as “Sittee” was born to Alex and Louise Azar, on May 2, 1934 in Danbury, CT. In 1952, she graduated from Danbury High School. She made Texas her home in 1956, when she moved to Longview with her family. It was there she met the love of her life, Tommy George. She and Tommy married on October 12, 1958 and were blessed to share 58 years of marriage. Together they raised and educated three children in Waco, TX. Helen, along with her husband, founded and grew their family business, T&G Chemical and Supply, Inc. in 1967. After the couple’s retirement they moved to their home in Crawford, TX.

A consummate wife, mother and grandmother. “Sittee” was an excellent cook, who enjoyed preparing meals with love for her family and friends. Her generous hospitality and servant’s heart, made all who met her feel warm and loved. Known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers, some may be surprised to learn she was extremely shy. Throughout her life she preserved a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many. A woman of faith and the heart of the George family, Sittee shaped their spirituality by her tireless Christian example. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten.

Helen is survived by her husband, Tommy George; brother, Alex Azar and wife, Lyla; three children, Lisa Pohl and husband, Jack, Marc George and wife, Kim, Gina Gardenhire and husband, Mike; six grandchildren, Taye-Lyn George, Mason George, Haley George, Jordan Gardenhire, Sydney Gardenhire and Michael Gardenhire.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
