The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Deanie (Phail-Dean Copeland) Chastain can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence: Mrs. Chastain was my 5th grade Math teacher and she was simply the best Math teacher I ever had.

I am now a CPA partner in a local Dallas CPA firm and my employees are shocked that I can add, subtract, multiply , and divide numbers in my head as a result of Mrs. Chastain's use of flash cards daily in our classes.

She will always be remembered by me and my sincere condolences are extended to Byron and her family.

Condolence: Deanne and Maurice were our neighbors when we lived in Brownwood from 1978 to 1985. What special people they were and especially Deanne was so very kind to my children. She always had something positive to say with a smile on her face. I am thankful for having known her. She lived a full, long life. I think the thing she was most proud of were her children and grandchildren. I know she is rejoicing in heaven now

Condolence: Mrs. Chastain was truly a remarkable and dedicated teacher of math. I will never forget her perfectly matched pink suit and pink lipstick & coal black hair. She is indelibly printed on my heart. Many thanks to her for helping me learn math well. She was strict, but in a great way--she insisted we do the best we could. She was a Kramer icon. We were very lucky to have been touched by her grace and of course her smarts!! My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, and particularly her son Byron, such a kind a gentle soul I remember. I would love to reach out to him, been decades. My email is flohite@hotmail.com if he would like to contact me. My best to all who loved and admired Mrs. Chastain. ~~ Florence Hite (Ha, the Captcha was fittingly: "What is 41+7?"! Thanks to Mrs. Chastain, I could answer that correctly!)

Condolence: Byron and family,

Your mother taught me fifth grade arithmetic at Kramer school in Dallas, she always had a big smile -- even when she was stern! -- and I remember her class was my favorite.

We were friends with the Balls, your neighbors across the alley. I'm sad to report Charlie and Ruth both died, and last year, so did Chuck. Mary Ann Lives in McKinney.

I was sad to r ad about your mother but love her rules for living. Always a teacher.
