Obituary for Evelyn Powell

Evelyn Magee Powell, of Waco, passed away Monday, November 28, 2016, at the age of 102. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 1, at Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Evelyn was born with her twin sister, Rosalyn Magee, on August 30, 1914 to W.W. Magee and Stella Floy Bearden in Oglesby, Texas. She had her own beauty shop in McGregor, Texas, went to National Business School, and married M.C. Powell in 1944. She worked in Waco at Citizens National Bank until 1977. After M.C.’s passing and Evelyn’s retirement, Evelyn and Rosalyn traveled and lived together in retirement until Rosalyn’s passing in 2012. She was also a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Silas and Jack Magee; and sisters, Marcelle Baudoux and Rosalyn Magee; as well as a niece, Nancy Cook.

Survivors include her sister, Willie Mae Buchanan; nieces, Paula Baudoux, Marilyn Pound and Nancy Cook; and nephews, John C. Baudoux, Jack Magee, Jr., Ron Buchanan, and Bill Buchanan.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Texas.
