Obituary for Julia Moreno Hunter

Julia Moreno Hunter, 95, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2016 at Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas. The love of family members surrounded her. A Rosary will be said in her memory at 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, at OakCrest Funeral Home, with visitation from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Benjamin Magnaye as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Rosebud, Texas. The family has requested a private burial.

Julia was born on January 9, 1921 in Thurber, Texas but lived most of her life in Waco, Texas. She was the last surviving child of Ignacio and Pasquala Moreno. She was a loving mother to six children. She devoted her life to caring for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family friends. She enjoyed working in her garden, sewing, listening to music, and watching westerns and wrestling on TV. She enjoyed traveling and vacationed in Canada, Hawaii, Washington, and Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her siblings, Juan Moreno, Benito Moreno, Marcelina Moreno Bargas, Emilia Moreno, and Vicente Moreno; and her children, Timothy Vargas and Lucia Vargas Sambrano; and son-in-law Ventura "Ben" Garcia, Jr.

Julia is survived by her children, Sabino Arausa and wife, Vera Arausa, Martha Arausa Tellez and husband, Joe Tellez, Rose Herrera Garcia, Edward Herrera; and daughter-in-law, Manuela "Nelly" Vargas. Her children, multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren will miss her stories, sense of humor, and the love that she showed everyone.

Special thanks to the ladies from Sacred Heart Catholic Church who brought her communion each Sunday, taking time to visit with her. Also, a special thanks to Meals on Wheels.

Pall Bearers will be Harold Due, Lorenzo Tellez, Brandon Due, John Alec Hurtado, John Kirby Henry, Jr. and Paul Hidrogo.

Memorials in her name may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
