Obituary for Rita Moncus McNamara

Mary Clara Rita Moncus McNamara of Waco died Friday, December 16, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday, Dec 19, at St. Louis Catholic Church with Father John Guzaldo officiating. Burial will follow at Bosqueville Cemetery.

Viewing will be 12 noon – 4 p.m. Sunday at Rita’s home. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Sunday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m.

Rita was born in Wortham Bend, McLennan County, on May 23, 1914, to Gideon Bell Moncus and Clara Muhl Moncus. She graduated Sacred Heart Academy in 1932 and married John R. McNamara on January 5, 1933. Rita was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Louis Choir, directed and sang in St. Mary's Choir, Baylor University Senior Adult Choir, and enjoyed water aerobics.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John R. McNamara; her son, Paul Tom McNamara; and daughter-in-law, Ruby Toten McNamara; and great-grandson, Jeremy Mark Meline.

Rita is survived by five sons, John McNamara Jr., and wife, Carrol, of Waco; Joe McNamara and Linda Northam, of Belton; Pat McNamara, and wife, Jean, of Waco; Gene McNamara, and wife, Pat, of Crawford, and Glenn McNamara, and wife, Petra, of Waco. Also surviving are her 19 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Rita lived life with vigor and strong faith. Her family was most important to her. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. Her gardening and cooking made everyone happy. Rita will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

The family is very grateful for all the love and attention shown by her home care givers and nurses at Providence Hospital and Hospice.
