Obituary for Tuan Huynh

Mr. Tuan Huynh, 84, of Waco, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan 28, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loved ones after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, Feb. 1, and funeral service will be 10 am Thursday, Feb. 2, at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, Waco with Pastor Josh Vaughan of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas at 4 pm.

Mr. Tuan Huynh was born on August 10, 1932 in Ha Mat, Dien Ban, Quang Nam, Vietnam to Mr. Huynh Huynh and Mrs. Lap Thi Nguyen. He graduated from Vuong Gia Can High School, Saigon in 1954. He taught Math, Physics, Chemistry and French at Sao Nam school, Duy Xuyen from 1959 to 1962. There he met and married his wife Huy Thi Mai on January 16, 1962.

He joined the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnamese Army) and went to Thu Duc Military Academy in 1962. He served as an Army Ranger from 1963 to 1964 in Pleiku. He served at Department of Logistics from 1964 to 1970, then Department of Trading until 1975 and held his last rank as Major in Da Nang, Vietnam.

After 7 years and 8 months in prison after North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam in 1975, he was released in March 1983. He and his family moved to new economic zone in South Vietnam in March 1985. They were permitted to go to USA and moved in Waco, TX on January 31, 1992 under Humanitarian Operation (HO11) program.

He was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church since 2002. Mr. Tuan Huynh is survived by his wife of 55 years, Huy Thi Mai; his sister-in-law, Minh Dieu Le and family; his brother-in-law, Tu Vinh and family; his brother, Sony Huynh and family; his sister, Hoa Huynh and family; his sons, Dave Tan Huynh and family, Dung Q Huynh and family, Thien Huynh; his daughter, Ly Mai Huynh and family, and nieces, nephews and extended family.
