Obituary for Carnell Hampton Sr.

Carnell Hampton, Sr., 86, of Waco, Texas passed away, Friday, March 3, 2017. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, March, 8, 2017, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 8, 2017 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at OakCrest Funeral Home.

Carnell Hampton was born May 16, 1930 to Oliver and Stella (Jackson) Hampton, Sr., in Hugo, Oklahoma. He spent his childhood in Ardmore, Oklahoma where he accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 9. He graduated from Douglass High School in June 1949. He also attended Butler College in Tyler, Texas and Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas in 1951.

He was drafted into the U. S. Army in September of 1954 and served to 1956. Upton his return, he returned to Paul Quinn to continue his education.

On October 21, 1957, he married Bernice Weaver. They have four children; Vivian from Lakewood, California, Carnell, Jr., of Madison, South Dakota, Bernice Charnee and Timothy Hollis of Akron, Ohio, Rheada of Lakewood, California.

He relocated with his family from Texas to Los Angeles, California in 1964. He worked for the Metropolitan Transit Authority retiring in 1995 as a bus operator. He and Bernice returned to Waco in February 2016.

Carnell also is survived by grandsons, Darnell and wife Tamika, Carnell III, Jamal Henderson, and Nathan; and two great grandchildren; Nicholas and Brooklynn Simone; sisters, Cora Rolison and Claudette Jackson; two brothers, Oliver Hampton, Jr. and Robert Hampton.
