David Wayne Cunningham, 63, of Waco, Texas passed away in his sleep March 7, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Monday, March 13, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1401 Washington Avenue, with Rev. Joseph F. Geleney, Jr. as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m., Sunday March 12, at OakCrest Funeral Home.

David was born December 7, 1953 to Emmett Monroe and Phyllis (Hopkins) Cunningham in Paris, Texas. In his early years he could be found in one of three places, work, his garden, or under the hood of his beloved truck. He loved to talk just like his dad, Emmett Monroe, and never met a stranger. He loved to boast about his three sons. Whether it be at soccer practice, over his charcoal grill burning burgers, or just about any other minute of the day, he always welcomed a good conversation.

After 36 years as the telephone man for Southwestern Bell and then AT&T, he hung his snips and climbers up and enjoyed life with his kids and grandkids until he became ill. Between cancer and his demons, his latter years were filled with struggle and turmoil. As the Lord would have it thought, he righted all his wrongs and found faith in his Savior Jesus Christ before passing. He was a stubborn man, but believed with all his being in what he did and never gave up.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Emmett Monroe, the man that was his true hero and best friend.

He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Cunningham and brother, Daniel Cunningham, both of Waco, Texas; sister, Mary Wolfe of Lorena; his sons, Joshua David Cunningham and wife, Cassondra of Conroe, Justin Wayne Cunningham of Houston, and Jeffrey Leo Cunningham and wife, Kelly of Lorena. He leaves behind eight grandchildren, Tristan, Taylor, Trace, Tanner, Gavin, Dylan, Ava and Ben.
