Herman Martin Roessler, 87, of Waco, entered eternity on Thursday, March 30, 2017, after receiving a call from his Beloved Lord and Savior. He was blessed with a peaceful passing at home, surrounded by his loved ones. When he is judged on his involvement in building the Kingdom, the evidence is in the kindness to others and the sacrificial love and generosity of his time.

Visitation celebrating his life and the rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday, April 3, at Oakcrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., Waco, TX. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco with Father Payden (Red) Blevins as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West, TX.

Herman was born in Westphalia, TX on September 2, 1929 and at the age of four his family moved to Tours, TX. While working with his family’s farm, Herman attended West H.S. where he met his loving bride-to-be Stacie Ann Bacak at a local dance hall. He swept her off her feet and they were married October 22, 1949 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waco, TX. He went to work at General Tire and Rubber company for 37½ years in the Curing Department.

Herman and Stacie built their home in Woodway, Texas in 1953 and raised three children in the Midway Independent School District. With each one active in sports, they were at most athletic events cheering for the team. He was an active Scoutmaster in Boy Scouts for St. Louis Catholic Church and honored by receiving the Order of the Arrow. Herman and Stacie were active sponsors of the St. Louis Church CYO 1975-80, sharing their enjoyment of camping and boating with the youth from the parish. Herman taught many of them how to waterski by patiently pulling them behind his boat until all of them had attained achievement each summer.

Herman was quite the athlete who parasailed on a family vacation at age 68 and waterskied the last time at age 71. Family vacations were centered around camping, boating, fishing at area lakes in Whitney, Belton and Waco with friends and their families. His friends enjoyed listening to Czech music and dancing at local clubs in West. Herman enjoyed taking the family on vacations to see America.

For many years Herman volunteered to usher at the Baylor football games. Herman was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1950 and volunteered many years making potato pancakes at the WestFests. Herman was a generous donor of blood at the Waco American Red Cross, giving 32 gallons in his lifetime.

After retirement from Genco in 1986, Herman went to work for Midway Independent School District in the Maintenance Department. There he prepared the fields for sporting events and continued to support Midway Athletics even past his children’s graduations. In 2005, Herman was inducted to the Midway Hall of Fame as a Friend of Midway. He retired again in 2010 after 24½ years of dedicated service to the school district.

Even though Herman retired, he remained a faithful servant to building the Kingdom as a valued counselor to so many within his family. His strong belief in Jesus Christ was the backbone of his life. A devoted husband and father, you couldn’t miss the pride in his voice when he spoke of his life.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Roessler and Clara Straten, and his in-laws, Ignac A. Bacak and Cecilia Klish; three sisters, Annie and husband Frankie Schroeder, Ann and husband Ray Gerik, Mary and husband Ervin Podsednik, and son-in-law, Richard B. Hall, spouse of Denise.

He is survived by his wife, Stacie Ann Roessler; three children, Herman E. Roessler and wife, Marilynn, Linda R Weinberg, Denise A. Roessler; two grandchildren, Rachal K. Roessler and Jonathan M. Weinberg; two brothers, Henry Roessler and Erma, Johnny Roessler and Almalena; many loving nieces and nephews; and one adopted poodle, Tiny.

Pallbearers for the services will be Robert Soukup, Dr. Gayle R. Avant, Shawn Keough, Jr., Michael J. Diaz, David A. Diaz and Jonathan M. Weinberg.
