After a long and hard fought battle with leukemia, Harmon Stanley Grant began celebrating with our Lord on June 2, 2017. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 10 at 10:00 am at OakCrest Funeral Home with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, June 9 from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.

Stan was born May 16, 1938 in Matador, TX. He graduated from Floydada High School in 1957. On October 19, 1957 he married Dorothy Levene Trimble.

Stan joined the United States Air Force in 1957 after graduating from high school. He was originally based in Anchorage, Alaska, then Fairbanks, Alaska and finally the Headquarters of the 12th Air Force in Waco, TX in 1959.

He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ministry, and an Associates in Applied Science Degree in Religion from Southwestern Assembly of God University in Waxahachie, TX. He attended Sam Houston State University and Baylor University in order to obtain a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice in which he completed all of his course work but never completed his thesis.

Stan and Levene both are Alumni By Choice of Baylor University. They have been avid Baylor Bear fans for decades, especially loving Lady Bear Basketball. A highlight of every year was traveling with friends to watch the Lady Bears play in the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Tournament.

He worked at the Gatesville State School for Boys and the Waco State Home for many years early in his career and retired in 2000 after 20 years with the McLennan County Adult Probation Department.

In recent years, his passion was volunteering with Celebrate Recovery. The work he did at Celebrate Recovery is said to have changed lives of many and he was a Godly spiritual father to so many who never really had that.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Jewell Grant and his sister Meg Sprayberry.

He is survived by the absolute love of his life for 59 years, Levene Grant; daughter, Debbie Taylor and husband, Rick; grandson, Trey Pearson and wife, Amber Pearson; great grandson, Brock Pearson; and grandson Zack Taylor; daughter Elise Wells and husband, Bradley; grandson, Cody Wells and wife, Brittany; and his only great granddaughter, Kylee Faye Wells; son, Curtis Grant and wife, Shawn; grandson, Bryce Grant; and grandson, Josh Grant; brothers, Larry Grant and David Grant; and sisters, Wanda Fuller and Velma Haaland.

He loved his family and was so very proud of his grandsons and their accomplishments. He traveled often to watch them as they played sports in high school.

A very special thanks to Dr. Bryan Berryman of Texas Oncology in Dallas; Dr. Chakmakjian of Texas Oncology in Waco; Dr. Cooney of Baylor Scott & White Health in Hewitt and all of the many wonderful nurses and aides that helped him. He called all of the nurses his angels.
