My Friend Richard DePriest of 29 years has gone home to be with his wife Roberta. I met Richard around 1987 when I was first recruited to join the Robinson Police Department. About a year later on the Firing Range he saw the potential of a shooter so he put together a Team to compete in tournaments around the country. Under his guidance training we always brought home trophies, guns, ammo and other things from winning tournaments, we even went to Arkansas to compete in the Olympics. I remember the time we entered the McLennen County Peace Officers tournament and walked away with about 90% of their trophies, needless to say they asked us not to compete in anymore of there tournaments.
Richard served in the Army a little over four years and when he returned from Germany he went into law enforcement. Richard has been to a few police departments where his skills and leadership was needed and has came from patrolman to Lt, Capt, Commander and to Chief. His last Call to Duty was Waco ISD Police Department until he retired in 2007.
Richard was a boy scout leader, a Mason, Soldier, and Law Enforcement Officer and a Father and Grandfather and he was my friend. I will miss him and our get togethers on Tuesdays at I Hop for breakfast and coffee.
