Jane Whitmore Smith, 82, of Oglesby, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 26, at OakCrest Funeral Home, with burial at McGregor Cemetery to follow. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 25, at the funeral home.

Jane was born August 2, 1935, in Gatesville, to Robert and Alta (Webb) Whitmore. She attended Midway High School, where she played basketball, and graduated in 1953. Jane also graduated from Hillcrest Nursing School in 1955, earning her LVN license. She worked as a nurse for 62 years, working in various fields of nursing with her career ending at Westview Manor, where she retired in April 2016 after 25 years of dedicated service.

Jane was preceded in death by her grandparents, James Erbe Whitmore, Mary Francis Dodson, Otis Cleveland Webb, and Ninnie Graham; parents, Robert Whitmore and Alta Webb Whitmore; and brothers, J.E. Whitmore; Earl Whitmore; and Wayne Whitmore.

She is survived by her children, Bobby Smith and wife, Edwina, of West, Sandy Grimes and husband, Gary, of Palestine, Cathy Mikoeoyjchah and husband, William, of Spring, Eddie Smith and wife, Joyce of Oglesby, Karen Haug of Robinson, and Cindy Booker of Hewitt; sister, Wanda Weber; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; her adopted sons, Trey Scherwitz and Tom VanSyckle; and her lifelong best friend, Anne Bales.
