Obituary for Robert L. Goldsmith

Robert Lee Goldsmith (80), of Waco, Texas entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 3, 2017. Services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, December 7th at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 6th from 6 to 8 PM.
Robert was born October 23, 1937 in Burneyville, OK, the son of the late Robert Henry and Ruth Jane (Daily) Goldsmith. He was the second-born of three sons. During his youth, he was an active member of 4H and received numerous ribbons and awards. In recognition of his accomplishments, he was named “Outstanding 4H Member of Love County” and repeatedly serving as a representative of the Love County Chapter of 4H, at the Oklahoma State Fair. He graduated from Burneyville High School in 1955. He enrolled at Radio & Telephone School – Fort Worth, TX immediately thereafter, completing his training in 1956. While attending RTS, he worked for the Tandy Corporation. Upon completion of his technical training, he joined the US Army. He served for three years, 1956-59. During his time in the service he continued to pursue his educational goals by attending the Army Security Agency School – Ft. Devens, MA, majoring in Morse Interceptor. After completing his military service, he pursued a career in the retail industry. During his eleven years with McCroys/McLellan Five & Dime Stores he was quickly promoted to Store Manager, managing various stores in both New Mexico and Texas, before settling down in Waco, TX. In 1970, he left the retail chain to become the General Manager for Kirkpatrick & Witt Furniture, advancing to Partner and then the majority owner of the company. During this time he also chose to further advance his education, enrolling at McLennan Community College, earning an Associate degree in Business Administration. He retired from actively running the store in late 2010. While being a very successful business man, he was truly a jack of all trades and there was nothing he could not accomplish, be it building a successful business or adding a workshop to the back of his home. Robert Lee Goldsmith was a good husband and father. He will be greatly missed by his family and be forever in their hearts.
Robert married Deloris Davis on May 20, 1987. They celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary earlier this year and remained devoted to each other until his passing. Robert was previously married to Sharon Shirley Carter and together they had four children.
