Obituary for Kevin Barry McAndrew

Obituary for Kevin Barry Gerard Christopher McAndrew [December 21, 1958 – December 24, 2017]
Kevin Barry Gerard Christopher McAndrew was born on December 21, 1958, to John McAndrew and Mary Catherine Mulderig McAndrew in St. Louis, Missouri, and was the third of five children. He graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1977 in Florissant, Missouri, and went abroad that summer after being selected as a Youth For Understanding (YFU) Foreign-Exchange Student to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he was part of a pilot program for the study of fine art.

Upon his return to the U.S. in 1978, Kevin studied fine art and psychology at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. He loved to express his creativity wherever he happened to be employed as a bartender and food service worker in the food and beverage industry. He worked for several years at the popular Casa Gallardo Mexican Restaurant in St. Louis, before leaving the food service business in the 1980s to work cargo for TWA in St. Louis. When American Airlines acquired TWA, he went to work for AA and was eventually transferred to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and then Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. After being furloughed by American Airlines, Kevin moved to Waco, Texas, to be near family members. He worked for various companies during the past several years and was a valued UPS worker at the time of his death on Sunday when he was hit by a car after doing some late-night shopping on Christmas Eve.
Kevin was a life-long lover of art, music, singing, traveling, spending time with his extended family and close friends, and decorating for parties and seasonal occasions…especially Halloween and Christmas!
Kevin is survived by his siblings, Pat Almanza Retzlaff (children John and wife, Nora Almanza; Robert Almanza and Ann Almanza) of Waco, Texas; Sean Gerard McAndrew and wife Phyllis (children Kelly and husband, Lloyd Kersting; Corey and husband Randy Brech; and Nicholas) of O’Fallon, Missouri; Terry Gerard McAndrew and his wife Gina (children Shannon, Laura, Holly and David) and Brian Gerard McAndrew and his wife Theresa (children Brian and Danny) of St. Peters, Missouri. Kevin also relished being a Great Uncle to Isabel, John, Juan, Andrew, Benjamin and Jackson. Kevin was preceded in death by his parents. Besides his immediate family, he is survived by his Aunt Nancy McDonough, Uncle Howard Kopecky, Aunt Delia McManus, and numerous cousins. He is also survived by life-long friends, Sandra Lynn Pulley and her husband, George Moore, from Carrolton, Texas, and many more friends all over the world.

There will be a Rosary followed by a Mass on Friday December 29, 2017, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 1401 Washington Ave., Waco, TX 76701.

In lieu of flowers, Kevin’s family suggests that donations be made to St. Mary’s Lunch Program for the Homeless or to your favorite charity.

A celebration of Kevin's life and interment of his ashes will take place in St. Louis, Missouri, in the Spring of 2018.
