Naomi Ruth Bircket (Gallaway)
Naomi Ruth Bircket, 80, of Waco, Texas passed away January 14, 2018 at Providence Hospital due to a sudden heart attack.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 19 at Lake Shore Drive Church of Christ with Ernie Christie officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Waco, TX. Visitation will be Thursday, January 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth was born August 5, 1937 on a farm southwest of Mulhall, OK to Ira Eritt Gallaway and Addie Ellen Bocox Gallaway. She was always very proud of the name her father chose for her. She was the youngest of 5 siblings.

She graduated Valedictorian of her high school class of 1955. She then attended cosmetology school in Enid, OK and became a licensed beautician. She married Max Dale Bircket on her birthday, August 5, 1956, after knowing each other since second grade and finally becoming high school sweethearts.

Ruthie was an example of a true ‘help mate’ in supporting Max through college and his career. The admiration and respect for one another as well as their commitment to God has been a great example for their family. To this union was born three daughters. In raising three daughters, her love for children became very apparent and her talent as a seamstress blossomed. Ruth always loved the challenge of piecing the personalities of her grandchildren in their quilts. She enjoyed celebrations and seasons, and adding her special touch to a holiday table, menu, and home.

Ruth cherished and treasured all the relationships she built with the children, parents and co-workers while teaching Cradle Roll at church, Pre-K at Wonderland Kindergarten in San Marcos, TX and Waco Christian School in Waco, TX. Many lives have been enriched by her knowledge, patience and constant prayer. She was a firm believer in books and reading to children.

She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Ira Gallaway Jr., Charles Russell Gallaway, and James Floyd Gallaway; one sister, Ruby Ellen Gallaway Cothern.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Max Dale Bircket of Waco, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Darla Sue and David Taylor of Denton, TX; daughter and son-in law, Gayla Renée and Reagan Simon of Dale, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Jana Michelle and Harvie Welch of Crawford, TX; grandchildren Nathan Taylor and wife, Michal; Whitney Taylor and significant other, Greg Duncan; Lindsey Simon Finlay and husband, Neil; Amanda Simon Rickman and husband Chris; Natalie Simon Martell and husband Edward; Addie Welch Collins and husband, Shawn; Allyssa Welch-Brenner and husband Joshua; and Amorie Welch and fiancé, Braxton Anderson; great-grandchildren Isla Finlay, Hailyn Collins, Makinley Martell, Coy Finlay, Levi Collins, Jayden Brenner and Eden Grayce Martell; a very special sister-in-law, Clara Gallaway Ketch; and numerous special nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and their families.

Pallbearers are Nathan Taylor, Greg Duncan, Neil Finlay, Edward Martell, Shawn Collins and Braxton Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers are Ray Knight, Garye Gallaway, Randy Gallaway and Marty Gallaway.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gary Barbin and staff for always providing diligent and dignified care and concern.
