The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Dr. James W. Vardaman can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolence: Dear Love One/ Surviving One:
I’m so so sorry to hear of your love one passing away, I know it must be hard since such passings have happened to us in our life. We can take comfort from what the bible says: “ John 5:28,29 …for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out…” IMAGINE !!!! a resurrection of ALL people, your love one is included. If you want to learn more about what the future holds, visit this website jw.org There you will learn not only the future of your love one BUT your own future. You are also cordially invited to the “Memorial of Christ death,” on March 31, 2018 that will be held at your local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, or ask any Jehovah’s Witness or you can visit JW.org

Condolence From: James Henderson
Condolence: Our loss of Jim Vardaman is both personal and public. Publicly, he was known as an outstanding teacher, a pied piper of sorts, who was able to share his insights in a way that was both instructive and intimidating. He had a great mind, but also a kind heart. I will be forever greatful that he provided me with the opportunity to participate in the Baylor in the British Isles program. My children grew up going to London every summer and not camp. I believe they are better off for that experience. In 2001, I became co-director of the study abroad program that he founded and nurtured, now known as Baylor in Great Britain. I have always used his approval as a measuring stick for the program. It is my hope that he still approves.

Condolence: My deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time. I hope the words at Rev.21:4 bring you comfort. It says: "God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

Condolence From: Stephen Todd
Condolence: Dear James,
You had an impact on my life, more than you know and more than I ever expressed. I was your student for many history courses and you directed my thesis in graduate school. I was an arrogant, carefree young man and you loved me for it. We went to the British Isles together and you taught me more about history than I ever could have learned from any book. I still remember walking into class on that trip, late of course, after a long train ride back to London from the Isle of Skye. I could sense how happy you were that I was taking advantage of every moment but in your way you simply stated, with a smirk of approval, "Mr. Todd, sit down and shut up". We used to call you "The Duke" because you reminded us of John Wayne yet in a more sophisticated way. I still retain all of the history books from my time at Baylor from your courses and I cherished the opportunity to have been your student some 28 years ago. You were a special person, a magnificent professor, and a mentor and will forever be in my thoughts! You impacted my life beyond measure and I am forever grateful. Your friend, Stephen Todd (class of 1990).

Condolence From: James L. Scott
Condolence: My favorite story is how he walked to Fair Park (children could do that then) at age seven to see the Centennial State Fair. He had a dime for the whole day. He had a wonderful time, and spent the dime carefully. He started for the exit at night and saw people dropping coins in a barrel at the gate, so he figured you had to pay to get out. A night watchmen of the fair found him crying softly beside a building. He asked why, and little James Vardaman said: "I don't have any money to get out." The watchman dried his tears, chuckled, and told him he was definitely free to go home. That is what Our Savior told James Vardaman
yesterday!
