Obituary for Dolores A. Veselka

Dolores A. Veselka, 93, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Monday February 26, 2018. Graveside service will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, March 3, at Waco Memorial Park, with Reverend Steve Putman officiating.

Dolores was born August 3, 1924 in Halsted, MN, to Alvin O. Lien and Gillophine A. Johnson. She was the oldest of five siblings. After high school graduation she made the move to San Diego, CA, to join her best friend Lorraine to become a Rosie the Riveter during WWII. She then worked for Carnation Ice Cream. It was there she met her husband Ernest George Veselka, a Marine from Waco, who was stationed at Camp Pendleton. After a brief courtship they were married six weeks later and moved back to Waco where they raised their four daughters and lived happily for 65 years.

Dolores worked as a talented seamstress. Her other hobbies included ceramics, crocheting and quilting. She loved to read and travel and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; parents; sister, Gloria Haitz; brother, Calvin Lien; son-in-law, Mark Boyd; and grandchild, Kevin Abbott.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Judy Abbott and husband, David, Patty Sunderland and Drew Binns, Cindy Boyd and Kandy Young and husband, Carl. Also surviving are sisters, Carol Volness and Rosie Worner; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
