Obituary for Alta Underwood

Alta M. Underwood, of Waco, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2010. A Mass of Resurrection will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at St. Louis Catholic Church with Msgr. Mark Deering officiating. Graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. by Father David Leibham, followed by visitation with the family.

Alta was a retired chief accountant and auditor for the Federal Government. She worked tirelessly as a volunteer before and after her retirement at nursing homes and hospitals assisting the elderly. In addition, she volunteered at Caritas, a local food bank for the poor, in Waco for many years. Alta was an affiliate of the Daughters of Charity and an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary Simpson of Houston; and several nephews and nieces.
