Obituary for Melvin Charles Ickert

Melvin Ickert, 87, of Waco, passed away Monday, November 10, 2008 at his residence. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 13 at Waco Memorial Park with Chaplain Curtis Holland officiating.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Melvin was born October 10, 1921 in Clifton to Charles Ickert and Alma Jaster Ickert. He served in the United States Army Air Force 182nd Infantry Americal Division during WWII during the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign and received 3 bronze stars. Upon returning home from his tour of duty, he worked for Humble Oil Company in Clifton. He then began a career with Greyhound Bus Lines retiring after 32 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Virginia Ickert; his second wife, Mary Arnold Ickert; one brother; and one sister.

Melvin is survived by his step-son, William "Bill" Allison of Waco; step-granddaughter, Brooke Allison; nephews, Lloyd Hampe, Dale Hampe and Steven Ickert; nieces, Donna Kubiak and Terry Moore; and brother-in-law, Oscar Hampe.
