Delbert Wayne Featherston
November 28, 1954 to October 28, 2016

Delbert Featherston, 61, of Athens, went to heaven on Friday October 28, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. He went peacefully with his children at his side.

Graveside service will be held at Malakoff City Cemetery on Friday, Nov. 4, at 1 p.m. with Dr. Craig Klempnauer officiating. Viewing will be 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Delbert was born in Jacksonville Texas to Tillman and Willie Jean (Harris) Featherston. As a child he enjoyed the Boy Scouts and he graduated from Brownsboro High School class of 73. Delbert then joined the Texas Army National Guard as a cook and attended basic training at Fort Ord California. He served for 12 years. Delbert loved to fish and play dominoes with his friends.

Delbert was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens and attended church regularly. Everyone who met Delbert said that he was one of the kindest person they knew. Delbert was a great father, grandfather, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents Tillman and Willie Jean Featherston; his brother, Frankie Featherston; and grandson, Layton Featherston.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Phipps and husband, Johnny of Sweetwater; sons Jason Featherston and wife, Kerri of Robinson, Chris Featherston of Piggott, Ark., and Ryan Minchew of Sweetwater. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Satin, Randy, Shasta, Tyler, Charidy, Brendan, Bre, Abbigail, Isabella and Faith and his siblings, Annie Davis and James, Thomas, Jo Ann and Lois Featherston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Athens, 105 S. Carrol Street, Athens, TX 75751.
