Obituary for Dr. George Edmund Helm, DDS
Dr. George Edmund Helm, DDS, 97, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at his home in Axtell.
Graveside services will be 10 am Tuesday, July 11, at China Spring Cemetery with Steve Helm officiating.
George was born in Mart, Texas, to Dr. Lee W. Helm and Willie Dodge Bohannon Helm on January 31, 1920, and was reared and educated in Waco. He had direct ancestral ties to early settlers in the Republic of Texas. His great-grandfather was "Bosque" John McLennan, whose father, Laughlin, and uncle, Neil McLennan, settled in the area that today is named after them: McLennan County.
On July 1, 1942, he married the love of his life, Laura Jean Benton. They shared a love for traveling, golfing, boating and working side by side on their Axtell ranch. It was a union that lasted 65 years.
George was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
He is survived by his sons, Lee Helm and wife, Glenda and Mark Helm and wife, Regina; grandsons, Steve Helm and wife, Mandy, David Helm and Ryan Helm; and great grandchildren, Kinsey and Dax Helm.
