Stephen Todd

Dear James, You had an impact on my life, more than you know and more than I ever expressed. I was your student for many history courses and you directed my thesis in graduate school. I was an arrogant, carefree young man and you loved me for it. We went to the British Isles together and you taught me more about history than I ever could have learned from any book. I still remember walking into class on that trip, late of course, after a long train ride back to London from the Isle of Skye. I could sense how happy you were that I was taking advantage of every moment but in your way you simply stated, with a smirk of approval, "Mr. Todd, sit down and shut up". We used to call you "The Duke" because you reminded us of John Wayne yet in a more sophisticated way. I still retain all of the history books from my time at Baylor from your courses and I cherished the opportunity to have been your student some 28 years ago. You were a special person, a magnificent professor, and a mentor and will forever be in my thoughts! You impacted my life beyond measure and I am forever grateful. Your friend, Stephen Todd (class of 1990).
