Obituary for Richard McNeill

Richard Dale McNeill, 59, of Waco, Texas passed away Friday, June1, 2018. A memorial service celebrating his life will be Thursday, June 7, 2018 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Richard’s cousin Rev. Trent Williams officiating.
Richard was born April 4, 1959 in Bakersfield, California, to Oscar and Agnes (Eisemann) McNeill. He graduated from Jefferson Moore High School. He played the trombone and the guitar, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. Richard also played baseball, football, golf as well as he liked to bowl and fish.
Richard also had an adventurous spirit; he raced in motocross, enjoyed skydiving, and he and his friends would jump from the Lake Shore Bridge into the Brazos River. Richard and his friend Steve would ride their bikes all over Waco.
Richard’s first job was a paper route, and then a life guard. He also worked with his Dad at William Cameron after high school. He held a variety of jobs, but the one he enjoyed most was being a truck driver and traveled to all 48 states, as well as Canada. His favorite state was Colorado. This was a state of our family vacations, growing up year after year. His final employment was Frazer Sporting Goods, whom he considered to be his other family. He enjoyed working there and felt at home.
Richard went through his illness with dignity and never complained. His doctors wanted him to apply for a lung transplant, however, he did not want one, because he felt it should be given to someone who was young or had a family. This was his selflessness and kind heartedness that made him Richard.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving sister, Sharon Jackson and brother-in-law James, niece Rachael Jackson and great nephew David, and many special cousins and childhood friend Steve Smith, who was like a brother.

Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Hospice or to a charity of your choice.
