Condolence: Dorothy, Gene, and the first four children (Anna had not arrived) "saved" me from "drowning" in 1966-68. as a single male adult in a new culture because I was blessed to be within hollering distance of their home during my two years of full-time language study in Tokyo. Not only did they treat me like family close by, but I got to work with them several months in the Shibuya Japanese church Gene pastored. Their loving zeal was contagious and obvious as the Japanese flock flourished in a manner I did not see again in my church planting and strengthening efforts. I was nourished and inspired in my walk and work for the Lord. They always seemed to have loving attention to lavish on one more in order to bring that one to Christ and discipleship. Being in their home always was an opportunity to receive refreshment for the whole person. I think everyone spending time there felt special. Dorothy was gifted in making folks feel that way. Gene and the children certainly did their part. I went to Nagasaki from Tokyo and later married Rita Duke, a missionary in Taiwan, who died July 16, exactly four months before Dorothy, November 16. Years passed and Magi grew up and married David Davis and they served 1987-89 with us in Nagasaki. So Rita and I had, in a fashion, extended blessings from Dorothy as Magi and David lived lovingly among the Japanese and us "internationals". I can see young adult Magi now sitting at our piano which was hers when she played it in Mitaka as a very cute little girl, vivacious like her mother. It was a nostalgic occasion for me to remember her Mitaka home and the spirit of acceptance fosterd by her mother and father to those of us privileged to be drawn into their orbit. Dorothy was there, right in the middle by God's design to help many understand the love of God and grow in grace and knowledge and likeness of His Son. I am giving thanks for showing me His favor through Dorothy and her family. I trust that you grieving dear ones are experiencing overflowing thanksgiving amidst the tears. I tell folks that, sadly, I cannot experience Rita beside me anymore. I must think of "Rita above", serving her Lord with fullness of joy in His presence and in the place He prepared for her. This sure and happy hope turns my tears into, as it were, a celebratory fanfare of light. Such is the power of our Lord's bright and personal promises of resurrection and eternal life. God bless you all. Thank you for your loving and hard work on the impressive obituary. Love and prayers, Pratt

Condolence: What a beautiful life, lived for the glory of God! She loved people with the love of Christ. Her footprints can be found in the lives of many people in Japan as well as here. For a new missionary Dorothy and Gene often shared their home with me and others. They were a great example to me of how to love people and reach out to them. May the presence of Jesus be very real to you at this time.

Condolence: To the family of Dorothy Clark,

We were sorry to hear of the passing of Dorothy recently. It's never easy to give up a loved one but know she's in Heaven and in perfect peace. We served many years in Japan with Gene and Dorothy and found them both to be wonderful, dedicated missionaries who loved the Lord and the Japanese people very much. Dorothy always had a kind and gentle spirit. Many Japanese people learned about Jesus through her actions and words. Be assured of our love and prayers for you as you go through this difficult time.

Our deepest sympathy,
Gerald and Brenda Burch

Condolence: What a beautiful spirit will remain in our lives. What a wonderful story of Dorothy's life in the obituary. I did not know much of that story but know Barbie, Magi, Maya and David and Anna to a lesser extent and I'm sure the rest of the family is equally as loving. I always looked forward to seeing Dorothy when she came to Lake Shore by whatever means. She always greeted both Fred and I with a hug and a kiss and sweet, sweet words. Magi would remind her who we were and you would think she had known us forever. You could feel her presence and warmth.
What an incredible life!!! Much love to your families.
