Obituary for Abraham Hernandez

Abraham Rodriguez Hernandez, 87, of Waco passed away on February 17, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones. Visitation and prayer service will be from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, February 20, 2019. Burial will be at 10:00 am Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Oakwood Cemetery.

Abraham was born March 30, 1931 in Mart, Texas to Eleno and Anita Hernandez. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his enlistment, he fought bravely in the Korean War where he was taken as a Prisoner of War and held captive for 3 years. In 1954, he married Lois Hernandez with whom he had two children, Abraham and Belinda.

Abraham was a devoted father and grandpa. He loved spending time with his family and always made sure they were taken care of.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eleno and Anita Hernandez, his brother Abel Hernandez, his sisters Ester Bravo, Sarah Casarez, and Susie Tovar, and his son Abraham Hernandez Jr.

He is survived by his daughter Belinda Garcia and husband Rapheal Garcia of Waco, his sister Helen Martinez of Waco, his grandchildren Tracie Williams and husband David of Waco, Jennifer Crenshaw and husband Corey of Shawnee,OK, Crystal Garcia of Waco, Alexander Hernandez and wife Lindsay of Shawnee, OK, Cheryl Irwin and husband Brandon of Waco, 19 great - grandchildren, 3 great great - grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers will be David Williams II, Alexander Hernandez, Brandon Irwin, Samuel Torres, Darin Newton, and Patrick Leno.

Honorary Pallbearers will be David Williams III, Faith Echols, Paxton Williams, Branson Irwin, Julius Cuellar, Abel Hernandez, Davie Hernandez, Zachery Harjo and Eli Navejas.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the Intensive Care Unit at Providence Hospital and The Providence Hospice Place for providing excellent care to our father and grandfather during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Providence Hospice Place.
