G.D. I’m glad to have known you! You where a greet person and I’m glad to have known you! I was in my 20’s when we meet and needed a lot of advice! I always looked up to you and always respected you! You always helped me when I needed it! You where a great and wonderful person! I’m sorry time has drawled us apart! You are greatly appreciated for all that you have done and for all of the advice given to me and your great grandson ! I hope one day me and your great grandson John will be a able to fish and hunt with you in heaven and we are able to tell all of our life stories together!

He was my grandfather who helped raise me and my sisters. We were not informed of his passing , nor were we allowed contact with him or mema since Ray came back around. I am devastated and will miss my grandfather dearly. I love you so much GD.

I tried to post also, but I guess they have me or my comments blocked! This isn’t right and I guarantee our grandparents and mother (Janet Goggans) are not in any way okay, or happy with this. We spent more time with them than anyone else did and he was always around us and our kids. He is greatly missed and we should have been given the opportunity to say goodbye to OUR GD the proper way.

Dwane Smith: My Mentor

It was Dwane Smith who hired me out of College in February, 1974. He quickly became someone I admired and respected for his knowledge, skill, and integrity. The years that Dwane was my boss were some of the best years in memory of my time at Parks & Wildlife Department. I came to TPWD as a graduate; it was Dwane Smith's storehouse of knowledge and experience that allowed me grow into becoming a Fisheries Biologist. I was full of questions; Dwane usually had the answers. If not he could always show me where to look.
You get to know someone really well during the many hours we spent travelling to the places our work took us statewide. I came to think of Dwane as family, almost like a second father-figure. We survived a swamped boat on Eagle Mountain Lake when a storm came-up while we were deploying frame nets. Rescued two-in-the-water on the same lake as they swam away from their burning boat. Almost went down, nearly expired from hypothermia, on Lake Navarro Mills when --one year-- the "Gales of November Came Early;" and once were chased by a crazed-man with a rifle on the dirt roads along the shore of Eastland City Lake.
Dwane, after Parks & Wildlife, chose service to others --as he did for my family and so many others-- driving the service vehicle that carried us to and from funeral and graveside services for my brother, later my mother, and was there again as we said farewell to my father. This kind, humble, unassuming man --who dug graves by lantern-light to pay for college to earn his degree-- will always be larger than life to me. If My Father In Heaven may allow me to say it: "Well-done, good and faithful servant."
