Zachary was born April 19, 1989 in Waco to Curtis Dwayne and Donna Lynn McCraw. He was a 2007 graduate of Midway High School and an active member of the Antioch Community Church.

Zachary is survived by his mother, Donna Lynn McCraw; his grandmother, Delores Cates; his aunts and uncles, Kevin and Debbie Gilmore of Roundrock and Timothy and Jan Cates of Porter; his great-aunt and great-uncle, Don and Wanda Henthorn of Purdon; and by his cousins, Cameron Gilmore, Hayley Gilmore, Hannah Gilmore, and Piper Cates; as well as his girlfriend, Caitlynn Cox.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dwayne McCraw, and grandparents, Charles Cates, E. H. McCraw, and Barbara Aston.

Zach loved his family and friends. He served on many local and international mission trips, and worked in many jobs focused on helping people in need. His favorite scripture was Malachi 4:2: “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall.”

Pallbearers will be Tim Cates, Kevin Gilmore, Cameron Gilmore, Patrick Nolan, Justin Wallace, and Ryan Kleine.

Zachary was an incredible soul. I will always cherish the time I spent working with him at Drug Emporium. I truly had my most enjoyable most working there during the shifts I had with him. We would entertain each other for hours with riddles and jokes. I hope that his family know that he touched more lives in his 30 years on this Earth than most do in their lifetime. He will be missed dearly.

I'm sorry for your loss. Something that has helped me personally since the loss of my mom is the promise of a future, earthly resurrection. (John 5:28,29; Isaiah 26:19) We have the opportunity to see our loved ones again, here on earth, under the peaceful conditions described at Psalms 37:10,11. I hope these scriptures bring you some comfort during this difficult time.

From Colby Sims:
While I was in college, Zach was one of part of a Life Group I started going to and we easily became solid friends. He had an infectious laugh that would in turn get others around him laughing too; whatever he was laughing about, his laughter made it all the more rich. Many times he had us laughing so hard it hurt. He was a fun-loving broskie who also was passionate for following our Savior Jesus. I regret that I had never went on the Mission trips that he and most the Life group went on, but he was the kind of fellow you could talk seriously with about the deep issues of life. Many a time he led prayer for me, for which I still appreciate.

One of the most funny events I remember about him was how we were at a swimming pool one Life Group night and he kept trying to playfully push another good friend and brother into the pool and kept failing hilariously, getting pushed into the pool instead. Over and over again, he tried and only once did he manage to push our friend in instead getting himself pushed in. It was one the most hilarious things I'd ever seen (I'm laughing as I type this...), leaving me and others in a fit of laughter, and described his fun-loving character real well.

His faith in Jesus was sturdy and strong; I wished mine was as strong as his, and although I am still in shock and great sadness that he is no longer with us, I can rest assured that he and Jesus are striking up a conversation now (or will be). I rest assured that I'll see him again, along with Jesus.

Zach and I were friends and co-workers at Dominos pizza for a time around 2010 or so. Upon first meeting him, I thought Zach was a little silly, but the more we interacted, I discovered that he was a bright, kind, and respectful young man who wanted little more than to brighten people's lives however he could. I, personally, am not a religious man, but I held a great respect for Zach's devotion to his faith, which showed through in his actions every day. Zachary touched my life as well as the lives of countless others, and his is a soul that shall truly be missed.
