Agnes Simpson Goodwin
January 27, 1921 – December 17, 2013
Agnes Simpson Goodwin passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at a local rest home. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Pat Cummings of Patton Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will follow the service at the Waco Memorial Mausoleum.
Agnes was born in the Simpson family rock house in the community of Patton on January 27, 1921 to Bun and Effie Simpson. She attended school in the Patton Community for three years and then graduated from Valley Mills High School in 1938. She married Thomas E. Goodwin in the Patton Baptist Church on December 20, 1941. She was active in Sunday school and Church at Patton Baptist Church, Hillcrest Baptist Church, and finally at Western Heights Baptist Church.
In 1972, Agnes accepted a job at the Baylor University Book Store where she worked for 25 years. She was a longtime fan of Baylor University.
Agnes was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom; her parents; sisters, Jewel Alsup and Kathleen Short; brothers, Woodrow Simpson and Gordon Simpson; and a niece, Pam Filler.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy and husband, Ed Rolan of Woodway; brother, Eugene Simpson of China Spring; sister, Betty Reese and husband, Dowell of Woodway; sister-in-law, LaNell Simpson of Fort Worth, and brother-in-law, O. E. Short of Valley Mills, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Wesley Woods Healthcare Facility for their loving care in the last few months and Providence Hospice for their support in the last few days.
