Albert Robert

October 25, 1927 — January 16, 2018

Albert Robert

Albert Jean Robert was born October 25, 1937 in Waco, Texas and died January 16, 2018. Memorial service for AJ Robert will be Saturday January 27, 2018 at 2pm in the mausoleum chapel on the grounds of Waco Memorial Cemetery on I35 south of Waco.

He married Dorothy Ann Pace on July 25, 1957. She called him Jean, but many knew him as AJ or Jenkie. Jean and Dot were baptized the same day in 1957, one week before they married.

He is survived by two sons, Bennie and Michael; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

AJ worked many years as a master carpenter and traveled the US plying his trade. He remodeled the Cooper House, helped build Baylor’s Moody Library, built many of the homes in the States subdivision in Hewitt, and remodeled churches with his brother, son and nephews for several years all over the south.

He retired from the Army National Guard after 24 years of service. He also retired from the City of Waco engineering department.

He loved baseball, fishing, and family gatherings. If he wasn’t working, he was probably fishing or preparing to go fishing. Catfish, crappie, carp, and deep-sea fishing were his leisure passion. He once kept an 86-pound yellow cat alive in the bathtub for a week.

Sergeant Albert Robert received the Black Beret award from the Texas Congress for his work during Hurricane Carla in Houston. This the highest award the State of Texas can confer upon a member of the Army National Guard. He also was awarded the Army Medal for capturing enemy headquarters during summer war games 3 consecutive years. His Army Calvary Recon platoon was a second family for many years.
