Alice Novotny Chamberlain, 90, of Woodway, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 31, 2012.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, February 2 at the OakCrest Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Gray officiating.

Burial will be immediately following at Blue Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, founded by the Chamberlain family in 1859, near Regan, Texas.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 1 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.

Alice was born October 13, 1921 in Ord, Nebraska to John and Mary (Skolil) Novotny. She was one of six children raised on a farm in Kimball, Nebraska.

While growing up, Alice played piano for the Novotny family polka band. Upon graduation from High School, Alice joined her sister, Lynn, in Denver, Colorado where she was employed as a model and in retail sales.

It was at this time, while volunteering at the Denver YMCA, that she met the love of her life, Sergeant Edward P. Chamberlain. They were married in 1942 and they enjoyed 60 wonderful years together.

During World War II, she participated in the war effort by working at the Douglas Aircraft Company in Santa Monica, California. Afterwards, she attended Fullerton College.

Alice viewed life as a big adventure and lived throughout her years in Nebraska, Colorado, California, Georgia and Texas. She loved sewing, camping, dancing, antiquing and traveling. Alice was a devoted Christian who took pleasure in working with the youth in the various churches she attended.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodway. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who always had a kind word and warm heart toward everyone. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by a son, Mark Chamberlain of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Barbara Welton and husband Kelly of Santa Clarita, Ca., and Cheryl Holy and husband Ron of Woodway; three grandchildren, David Holy and Jordan Holy, both of Woodway, and Meredith Clarke and husband Mike of Palm Springs, Ca.; a great-granddaughter, Cassidy Clarke; her sister Lynn Locke of Tulsa, Ok. and brother Ron Novotny and his wife Mary of Phoenix, Az..

The family thanks the doctors and nurses of Scott & White Hospice and Hillcrest Hospital for their compassionate care.

The family also thanks the members of First Baptist Woodway for their love, support and prayers.
