Allyne, a loving wife, mother and grandmother was born on October 29, 1936 to the late Robert and Lucille (Thompson) Childs of Mart, TX. Allyne was the fifth of six children and attended school in Mart where she was a cheerleader and majorette in the marching band.

Allyne met Richard Cook while attending college at North Texas State University in Denton, TX where they fell in love and married in June of 1956. Allyne graduated from NTSU with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.

Allyne and Richard lived in Washington, DC where Richard served in the US Army and their daughter Elizabeth was born. Upon Richard’s discharge from the Army they settled in Denton, TX where their second daughter Patricia was born.

Allyne was an active member of Grace Temple Baptist and later First Baptist Church in Denton. She was very active in the church, especially in her Sunday school group.

Allyne had a fulfilling career as a textbook manager at Voertman’s Bookstore and the University Store at NTSU. She and Richard owned Cook’s Red Barn Antiques in Denton for many years before retiring to travel and spend time with their children and grandchildren.

Allyne was a very talented seamstress. She also had a life-long love of reading, both literature and poetry. In addition, she had a love for classical piano music.

Allyne loved being a mother and grandmother. Faith and family were always her main priorities. The love and dedication she showed to everyone she met created her shining legacy throughout her life.

Allyne was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lucille (Thompson) Childs, her brothers Randall and Don Childs, and her sisters Audrey Lowe and Jean Feller. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years Richard Cook, her sister Margie Wilbanks, her daughter Elizabeth Cook, her daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Todd Gullekson, grandchildren Katy Flanagan Barnes, Ryan Flanagan, Bailey Vetterick, Dakota Vetterick, Cassidy Grace Vetterick, and a great-granddaughter Harper June Barnes as well as many nieces and nephews.

“Well done, good and faithful servant!” is what the Lord said on Allyne’s homecoming day. Heaven has another angel, and this we all know. The other Angels will celebrate Allyne with iced tea and packets of Sweet-N-Low.

Allyne was among the kindest, gentlest, and most loving souls you’d ever hope to meet, and she will live in our hearts forever. We love you, Mom.
