Alvin W. (Bill) Huser, Jr., 65, of Waco, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Lake Shore Village surrounded by his loving family. He fought a courageous battle as he dealt with the many stages of Alzheimer's.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at the OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Disney officiating. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque. A memorial video of his life will be shown during the visitation.

Bill was born in Oklahoma City to Alvin and Eloise (Thornton) Huser. He moved to Waco as a small child. As a young man he was proud to be one of two cadets chosen for the Civil Air Patrol International Drill Team. He married Dixie Lynn Worley on October 1, 1962.

He worked for 33 years as a structural steel detailer with Davis Iron Works and with the Alamo Steel Co. He was a referee and umpire for many years for the Southwest Football Association and the ASA softball association.

He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time at the coast with his family and friends. He was a member of the West Bass Club and the SPJST. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Waco.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie; son, Brad Huser and wife, LaDean of Hewitt; daughter, Sherry Huser Norman of Waco; brother, Danny Huser and wife Frankie of Whitney; and grandchildren, Kaleigh Savannah Huser of Waco, and Joshua Alan Huser and Zachary Cole Huser, both of Hewitt.

Pallbearers will be Bill Arnold, Kenneth Campbell, Bob Hand, Johnny Norman, Terry Hutchinson and Fred Worley. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Morgan and Mike Nicosia.

The family would like to thank the Alzheimer's Unit at Lake Shore Village, Providence Hospice, Dr. John Kosarek and Dr. Randy Gardell.
