Anne Cornelia Frick Akin, 98, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Providence Health Center.
Graveside services will be Monday, June 9, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway, in San Antonio.
Mrs. Akin was born September 26, 1909 to Henry and Maude Frick in Fentress, Texas. She was named for her grandmother, Anne.
Mrs. Akin went to high school in San Marcos and received a degree in education from Southwest Texas State in 1937. She taught school in and around San Antonio for 40 years. In 1987, she moved to Waco to be close to her three grandsons. She was active in the Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's sorority. She was first a member in the Beta Tau Chapter in San Antonio and then in the Zeta Chapter in Waco. She was also a member of the Castle Hills Women's Club. She and her husband were among the six couples who started the Keystone Sunday School Class at Central Christian Church in San Antonio.
In Waco, she was a member of the CWF at Central Christian Church. Mrs. Akin was an avid gardener and loved beautiful flowers.
Anne Frick went to teach in Stockdale when she was seventeen. There she met Clyde Akin. They were married on August 12, 1931 and were married for 48 years making San Antonio their home.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her family will treasure her life in their memories.
Mrs. Akin was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra English and her husband, William of Waco; three grandsons, Mark English, Chris English and wife, Rebecca, Jeff English and wife, Lisa; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, Thomas, William and Elizabeth; many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Akin's family expresses great admiration and appreciation for her physician, Dr. Gary Barbin, for his care, respect and compassion for his patient, Anne Akin.
