Annie Bessire, age 100, of Waco's Bosqueville area, passed away on October 19, 2021 after an illness. Graveside services will be at Bosqueville Cemetery on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at 1:00 PM. Reverend Jeff Wyers officiating.

Annie was born December 4, 1920 in Tyler, TX to Leonidas Davis Carrington, III and Laurine Russell Carrington. The family lived in Commerce, TX from 1921 until 1937 when they moved to Waco.

Annie graduated from Waco High School in 1938, attended Baylor University prior to transferring to East Texas Teachers College (later Texas A&M Commerce) where she received a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of education degree. Later she also took post-master courses at Sam Houston State University. In early 1944, she joined Women's Army Corps. After basic training she was assigned to the Army Air Corps.

After World War II, she was employed by the Waco Independent School District for 34 years - seventeen as a classroom teacher seventeen years as a Visiting Teacher (a liaison between school, home and community agencies).

Anne was a member of The Church at Tree Lake, The Grand Chapter of Texas Order of the Eastern Star - Chapter #7, Daughters of the Nile - Merak Temple #104, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution - Henry Downs Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas - Hiram Bennett Chapter, Texas Retired Teachers Association, Waco-McLennan County Retired Teachers Association, American Legion - Post and Auxiliary #440, The Honor Society of Women Legionnaires - Echelon #31, Waco Chapter #1 American Ex Prisoners of War, and VFW 6088 Auxiliary (eligible through her husband).

Preceding her in death were her husband, Samuel E. Bessire Jr.; her parents; her brothers, L. D. Carrington, IV and his wife Wilma Lawrence Carrington; Russell West Carington; her son-in-law Arthur Joseph McCormick; her grandson Michael Joseph McCormick; and her niece, Carol Carrington Hutchinson.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Laureen Hawkins McCormick of Sunnyvale, TX; her granddaughter, Barbara Ann McCormick; and her great grandson, Samuel Michael Joseph McCormick of Dallas, TX; and her grand niece Mary Ann Hutchinson Thornton of Richardson, TX.
