Arnold L. Callaway

Arnold Lafayette Callaway, 97, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Graveside Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 S 5th St, Waco, TX 76706. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd, Waco, TX 76710.
Arnold Lafayette Callaway was born May 15, 1917 to John Arnold and Minnie Gertrude Callaway (Gorman) in Mount Heman, OK. He graduated from Alva High School and went off to college. Arnold went on to serve in the United States Army Cavalry where he served as Private from 1938 to 1939. He was then drafted in to the United States Army Infantry, Occupation Japan, where he quickly climbed in rank on a short boat ride overseas. They would appoint him as Staff Sargent from 1945 to 1946. Arnold married Dorothy E. McWilliams later in life and they spent many wonderful years together. Arnold worked most of his life; holding such titles as Asst. Engineer at National Engineering Co., Director of Operations for the City of Round Rock, and Municipal Utility District Manger at Brushy Creek. He was known for his expertise in woodworking and enjoyed working with his hands. Arnold was a member of the VFW and attended Rock Creek Baptist Church for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Minnie G. Callaway; siblings, James Callaway, Minnie Grover, Fred Callaway, Nellie Callaway, and Enid Reynolds.
He is survived by his sons and step-sons, Robert Callaway, John Callaway, Ronnie McWilliams, and Barry McWilliams; grandchildren, Paul McWilliams, Diane Canady, Michael Callaway, Toni Lynn James, Aaron McWilliams, Rhonda Blanchard, and Kevin McWilliams; which he cherished and loved very much.
