Aubrey Burge Jr., 88, of Waco, passed away Friday, February 27, 2015. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Peace Lutheran Church, 9301 Panther Way, Hewitt, with Rev. Stephen Rynearson officiating.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, Mach 2, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.
A.B. was born March 18, 1926 in Hubbard to Orbrey and Eloise (Lewis) Burge. He played football and graduated from Hubbard High School in 1943. As a member of the Greatest Generation, he served in the U.S. Signal Corps in the Pacific Theatre in WWII and also in the Korean Conflict.
He married Ruth Frances Scheu on July 26, 1947, and they proudly raised three daughters, Susan Byerley, Debbie McCollum, and Audie Williams. A.B. retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. after 48 years of service, and was a member of Communication Workers of America.
He married Elizabeth McNeel on October 14, 1978, and they enjoyed 31 years of marriage before her passing in 2009. A.B. was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Elizabeth Burge.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Audie Williams and husband Randy, whom he considered a son, of Lorena, Susan Byerley and husband, Bill, of Houston, and Debbie McCollum and husband, David, of Amarillo; Ruth Hendley, friend and mother of his daughters, of Hewitt; and Betty Ann Osborne, sister, of Duncanville.
Also surviving are his bonus family including Paula McNeel and Elaine Hoff of Corsicana, and Jim and Marilyn McNeel of Corsicana. He also leaves his grandchildren, Ryan Rasberry and wife, Kimberly, Rhett Williams and Kourtney Kizer, Ashton Williams, Annie and Sarah Byerley, and Shelby and Rae McCollum, and his bonus, grandchildren, Amy Stewart and Trey McNeel; and six great-grandchildren and expecting a seventh due on A.B.’s birthday, Logan Aubrey Rasberry.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Rasberry, Rhett Williams, Paula McNeel, Jim Chapin, Steve Whitehead, and Trey McNeel.
Bill Byerley and David Chapman will be an honorary pallbearers.
The family wishes to thank the Providence Hospice team, especially Margie Green, for their compassionate and loving care, and also to special caregivers, Sunni and Janice.
