Aubrey L. Jackson, 75, of Waco, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009.
Services will be 2 p.m., Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. Burial with military honors will follow at Riesel Cemetery. Rev. Robert Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be 7 - 9 p.m. Wednesday at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Aubrey was born November 2, 1933 in Hallsburg, and he served in the Navy during Korea. He attended Bible School, and was a former pastor of two churches in Houston. He enjoyed music, and knew all the old gospel hymns which he loved to sing.
He was currently a member of New Life Christian Church of Robinson and was a Bishop of the New Beginnings Christian Center of New Braunfels.
He was a former member of the Heart of Texas Fair & Rodeo Committee, and was active in the Midway Little League Softball Association.
For more than 50 years, he was a devoted funeral assistant at Connally-Compton Funeral Home and later at OakCrest Funeral Home. In his early years, he also drove ambulances for the former Connally Funeral Home.
Always a sharp dresser with a quick, friendly smile, Aubrey enjoyed helping and ministering to people. He loved his family, and will be greatly missed.
He was a man who touched so many lives throughout his ministry. His gentle spirit and smile will be missed by everyone blessed to have known him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Lydia Jackson; and a brother, James (Sonny) Jackson.
His is survived by his wife, Sara Popp Jackson; son, the Rev. Rick E. Jackson and wife, Angela of New Braunfels; daughters, Robin Stine of Elm Mott and DeeDee Kelly and husband, Mike of Hewitt; grandchildren, Lance Brewer and wife, Julie, Tanci Harris, Krissy Rodriguez and husband, Eric, Holly Turner and husband, Richard, Stephanie Kelly, Elizabeth Kelly, Shelby Jackson, Kelley Jackson, and Samuel K. Jackson; and great-grandchildren, Cole and Davis Brewer, and Ty Rodriguez.
Pallbearers will be Lance Brewer, Lonnie Ray Coone, Mike Kelly, Richard Turner, Carl Wayne Coe, and Rocky Coe. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Don Eddleman, Bill Coe, Rev/ B.E. Moore, and Samuel K. Jackson.
The family is grateful for the loving care provided by Providence Hospice, Ridgecrest Retirement Center, and OakCrest Funeral Home.
