Audrey Peterson, 91, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, November 14,2012, at a local nursing home. Visitation will start at 1 p.m. Friday, November 16,2012, at 1:00 P.M. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. Services will follow at Oakcrest at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Paul Krupicka officiating. Burial will be at Waco Memorial Park, Chapel Hill section.
Audrey was born in Palestine, Texas, on June 7, 1921, to E. W. and Mary Della (Griffith) Thompson. Her family moved to Waco when she was eight years old, where she resided the rest of her life. She attended Waco public schools and graduated from Waco High School in 1938.
Pernell and Audrey Peterson were married August 18, 1942, at First Lutheran Church, Waco, by Rev. I. P. Paulson. They celebrated their 70th Anniversary this year. Three children were born to this marriage, Pat, Tom and Carol, all born and raised in Waco. Audrey worked as a secretary for several insurance agencies, as well as Waco lSD, Texas Rehabilitation Commission and Texas Commission for the Blind. She retired in 1983. She enjoyed her association with Sweet Adelines, Waco Civic Chorus and Homespun Quilters' Guild. Audrey was an avid quilter, making beautiful quilts for family members, friends and various charities. The Petersons were longtime active members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Waco. They recently moved to Stoney Brook Assisted Living of Hewitt and enjoyed making new friends with other residents and staff.
Audrey was predeceased by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by: husband, Pernell J. Peterson of Waco; daughters Patricia Ann McElfish and husband, John, of Waco, and Carol Jean Blasche and husband, Donald, of Hewitt; son Thomas Eric Peterson of Sugar Land; grandchildren Donna Short and husband, Arthur, Michael McElfish, Erik Cornelius, Nathan Cornelius and wife, Ashley, Jason Peterson and Gavin Peterson; great grandchildren Kaitlyn and Ashley Short and Sarah Peterson, and sister-in-law, lmadean Peterson as well as several nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Audrey made many friends. She will be missed by her family who loved her dearly and by so many people whose lives she touched in very special ways. The family would like to thank the staff of Stoney Brook Assisted Living of Hewitt and Senior Care of Hewitt for their love and care.
