Aurbie Johnson, 84, of Woodway, passed away Sunday morning, April 24, 2004, at his residence.
The funeral service will be at 12 noon Saturday in the chapel of OakCrest Funeral Home.
After the service, his casket will be carried to the Kimmonsville Cemetery in a horse-drawn coach for the committal ceremony.
Visitation with his family will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque. A Memorial DVD of his life will be shown during the visitation.
Aurbie was born July 3, 1920, in Waco to G.B. and Mae (Hallie) Johnson. He married Elnora Canady on December 24, 1940. For many years he was a foreman at Redwood, Inc. company in Waco, until he left to open his own business, Johnson Hauling.
He was a hardworking, giving man who loved to laugh and make friends. He had many seasoned antidotes called "Aurbieisms" that enabled him to become a great storyteller.
His favorite pastime was playing dominoes which he really enjoyed doing with a special group of friends that met regularly "under the tree" to play and enjoy life.
He is survived by four sons, Aurbie R. Johnson Jr. of Waco, James R. Johnson of Dallas, and Ralph D. Johnson and wife, Diane, of Austin, and Gregory S. Johnson and wife, Rochelle, of Fort Worth; five daughters, Maxine Crosby of Waco, Joyce E. Palmer and husband, Joe, of Waco, and Gloria C. Miller, and husband, Matthew, of Waco. Peppiera (Betty) Davenport and husband, Bob, of Detroit, and Anitha K. Jones and husband, Tom, of Denver; five sisters, Willie Greer of Dallas, and Agnes Alley, Clotil Jones, Merdis Hicks, and Norma Alley, all of Waco; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
