Barbara Jay

Barbara Nell (Sexton) Jay, 82, of Waco passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 27, 2023, in Waco, Texas.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., Waco, TX 76710, at 11:00am, with Dr. Bob Thrift officiating. Barbara will be laid to rest at China Spring Cemetery on Old China Spring Rd.

Barbara was born on December 11, 1940, in Dialville, Texas to Samuel and Cora Sexton. Barbara met Wayne Jay while attending Baylor University in an accounting class. On August 3, 1963 Wayne and Barbara were married. She taught middle school in the Waco Independent School District for 18 years before retiring in 2002. Barbara loved family, food, and decorating for EVERY holiday and season throughout the year.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Sexton; mother, Cora Sexton; brothers, Douglas Sexton, Wayne Sexton, and Franklin Sexton; and sisters, Frances Allen and Dorothy Goldman.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wayne Jay; daughter Michelle McGregor of Waco; son, David and wife, Marie of Arlington; son, Scott and wife, Amy of Ferris; grandchildren, Lauren Green and husband, Kevin of Robinson, Bailey Cates and husband, Derek of Speegleville, Robin McGregor of Arlington, Jordan McGregor of Waco, Jennifer Jay of Ferris, and Jody Jay of Ferris; great-grandchildren, Brinley and Lainey Green, Lilah and Zain Tayeh, and Emberlyn Cates.

Pallbearers will be husband, Wayne Jay, sons, Scott and David Jay, daughter, Michelle McGregor, and granddaughters, Lauren Green and Bailey Cates. Honorary pallbearers are Robin McGregor, Jordan McGregor, Jennifer Jay, and Jody Jay.

Barbara, also known as Barb, Mom, and Meemaw will be missed by many.
