Barbara Marsh

Barbara Marsh,73, of Woodway, passed away on December 16th, 2019 at her home after her long, courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Friday, December 20th at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, Waco. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 21st at Valley Mills Cemetery.

Barbara graced our world with her birth to Nell and Ike Graham on February 22, 1946. She grew up in the small town of Raymondville, TX and graduated from Lyford High School in 1963. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree at Texas A&I University, majoring in English and Speech. Barbara was excited to return to her alma mater in Lyford as a High School English teacher. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Bill. They married in 1968 and went on to have three beautiful, stubborn children. Barbara moved with her family all over the State of Texas, before retiring to be near family in 2001. Her love for her husband and her family never wavered, reaching a cherished milestone of 51 years of marriage.

After raising her husband and 3 kids, 15 years in education, and 13 years in the Department of Human Services, Barbara decided to retire and spend her days loving her family. While she enjoyed teaching, her favorite job was being a mother and a grandmother.

Barbara’s life was defined by Love. Her love of God, her love of life, her love of family, her love of friends, and her love of the beach. Even though she was an English teacher, she never learned the definition of stranger. She was always generous with her smiles and she was never harsh with her words.

Barbara invented the phrase “Random Acts of Kindness.” The light in her soul has touched so many people that the axis of our world tilted slightly when she became an Angel.

Little known facts about Barbara: She ruled the Scrabble Board. She has beaten every Zelda game ever made and lost 1000’s of hours of sleep doing it. She loved rolling down hills in the grass, especially with her grandchildren. She collected turtles and salt-n-pepper shakers. She loved candy, frozen margaritas, and her Mother’s crunchy tacos. She aspired to be a beach bum. Lighthouse paintings light up her house. She loved Star Trek and thought Captain Picard was sexy.

We will miss her.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Nell and Ike, her sister Shirley, and her grandson Colby.

Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Bill; her sister, Kathy; her children, Tray, Becca, and Jennifer; a baseball sized team of grandchildren; and a starship full of cousins, nieces and nephews.
