Barbara Carolyn Sauls
January 30, 1941 – November 2, 2023
Barbara Sauls of Chalk Bluff, Texas passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard. Her services will be on Thursday, November 9th, at 10:00 am also at OakCrest Funeral Home with Steve Jackson officiating. A burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.
Barbara was born January 30, 1941 in Muncie, IN to William and Nancy Deaton. She and her mother moved to Waco in 1943 after her father was killed in an automobile accident. Barbara married Johnnie Ray Sauls in 1956 and they had five children.
She worked at Walgreens Drug Store in the Lake Air Mall until they opened Sauls Superstop in Chalk Bluff. Barbara and Johnnie loved to travel and worked in Yellowstone National Park for many summers.
She loved everything about Baylor and was a season ticket holder to Baylor Football and Baylor Women’s Basketball for many years. One of her biggest highlights was traveling to Denver to watch her Lady Bears win the national championship in 2012. Two of her sons and numerous grandchildren graduated from Baylor.
Barbara was a member of Chalk Bluff Baptist Church where she made many treasured friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy Drake, William Deaton, and Delbert McKee; her husband of 54 years, Johnnie Ray; and her sons Bobby and Larry.
Survivors include her son, Terry and wife, Denisha of Princeton; Gary and wife, Gayla of Hewitt; daughter-in-law, Lissa of Schertz; and daughter, Sherri and husband, Paul of Crawford; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband, Luke, Candace, Stacy, Jonathan and wife, Karen, Nathan and wife, Ashley, Holly and husband, Cary, Wesley and wife, Allie, Elaine and husband, Julian, Andrew and wife, Katelyn, Heather, Nickie, Erika, Brian and wife, Julie, Derek and wife, Addie, and Tanner and fiance’, Reagan; and 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Jonathan, Nathan, Wesley, Andrew, Brian, Derek, and Tanner.
The family would like to thank the staffs at the Blake at Waco, St. Anthony’s Care Center, and Bluebonnet Health Services for the care provided to our mom over the last few years.
